Insecticides: You must read and follow label directions. If in doubt, contact your crop consultant, NMDA, or NMSU.
Pre-plant and at-planting insecticides are used for two purposes:
- protection of the seed and plant prior to and soon after emergence. This is particularly important following grain crops, alfalfa, and some vegetables due to the increased risk of the soil inhabiting insect pests, and
- to protect the plant after emergence by the use of a systemic insecticide. Delayed emergence brought on by cool springs or frequent irrigations will significantly reduce the residual of more water-soluble insecticides.
