Mechanical Thinning
Development of a mechanical thinner is a part of the mechanization that is key to the survival of the chile industry in the state. The Manufacturing Technology and Engineering Center (M-TEC) at New Mexico State University has teamed up with the New Mexico Chile Task force in designing and building new machinery that is critical to the chile industry. A mechanical prototype of a thinning device for chile, which could be commercially available for pod producers by next spring, has been developed and currently is being tested.
